The brief

#1 Fitness Class Leaderboard

For exercises that generate real-time performance data (e.g. distance, calories burned, repetitions), many fitness classes encourage friendly competition through a digital leaderboard visible to their students for the duration of a session. Design a two-screen experience including a large television display for the leaderboard and a simple smartphone app for agreeing to participate and choosing a public identity.

Why I chose this brief?

More scope

Within this task there seemed potential to also demonstrate branding, iconography, motion and interaction skills.

Better context

I have previously used fitness apps and have friends in the industry I could question.

It looked fun!

Gym brands and fitness tech are particularly en vogue at the moment. I wanted in on the action.

Constraints

Limited time

With 6 potential days to work on the project and the ecommended finish times of 5 hours, shortcuts were needed. What I would have attempted with more time is covered at the end.

Showing my working

Luckily I have a refined design process and display method (this mircro site) set up already from previous projects which I was able to reuse. To see it's previous implication (with more of a focus on research)

Finding a way to display this content online andstrong> password protect it proved a bit harder than I expected (and where I spent a bulk of my time). I got there in the end however!

Part 2 of the design process: Research

With the brief fully understood the next step is to research for potential solutions.
